Good Bye 3rd Ward…

In light of the unfortunate recent closing of the 3rd Ward in Bushwick, we are left to wonder how one ever keeps well-intentioned art concepts alive. Given all the economic and political challenges that creative small business faces, what does it take to sustain the vision of an institution that simply wants to perpetuate art?

I think the art world in general is getting out of whack, with super high-end art selling at prohibitive prices. It’s become an industry rather than an important part of the culture . A lot of what’s out there is gimmicky. I think what was attempted with the 3rd Ward was a great thing and it’s unfortunate that it too followed the scent of bigger is better rather than developing what was a good thing and expanding slowly.
The arts are definitely given short-shrift and if you’ll excuse the expression, it takes a village to get it going and keep it going ,and individuals with integrity, a vision and soul

  2. hey Abraham where are all the great art movements, that gave birth to the abstract expressionists, all our great heroic figures. where’s the fun the passion, the so called institution that doesn’t care about money? you can’t have it both ways. sorry dude, create something that has no boundaries, art for the sake of art. I think it’s ended up in the desert at burning man. put something together that is about the art community. because we have to stop all of us thinking about art with money at the end. think and dream about passion, love why we got into making art in the first place. . james koskinas

  3. The crisis is International.

Those that “remain in the game” do so at their own personal expense and pure love for what they do.

Let us pray that they will see the end of this crisis. The Depression did not go on for ever. People grew from it.

3rd Ward in Bushwick is another casualty but it has not cornered the market.

How many artists will will part with €1,900.00 these days on a promise?
